The reason for poor standard of Indian Umpires is posting
of umpires for domestic matches is not on merit but other considerations like closeness to the officials who post umpires for the matches.A good umpire is never encouraged but mediocre umpires are given more matches.

Dear V. Dhandapani, thank you for giving your constructive comment of this story. There is nepotism in the selection of umpires for the domestic matches. It is high time for the BCCI to change the current selection policy applied for the umpires. Besides it, the board should focus on the technical aspects for the improvement of our umpires’ standards. Otherwise, we will never see our umpires in elite panel.

Umpires were right in awarding the match to England as the Pakistan team refused to take the field after tea.Umpires are there to enforce the laws and not go by the spirit.Inzaman should have continued under protest if he felt the umpires action of changing the ball was not right. It is shocking to know that the South African Team tampered with the ball against India and their coach then was Bob Woolmer. No wonder that he has suggested the rule regading ball tampering be scrapped.Strict action should be taken against such coaches also. Otherwise this great game will suffer.

All of this vilification of Darrell Hair, especially by cricket boards and those people in positions of responsibility in the game is very worrying. He should not be vilified for upholding the law, no matter how strictly he does it. If the law is inadequate, by all means criticise it and campaign for it to be changed, but when we start saying that the people who uphold the law are wrong to do so, then we are opening up a huge can of worms and inviting anarchy and a rule of no law. Is this what we really want? Shame on those who ought to know better.
